The radiation dose received in this irradiated zone is estimated to be between 20 and 50 sieverts per hour. This area is known as the Dead Zone, a place devastated by a nuclear accident in 2071 during the transport of a « Blue 235 » nuclear reactor.
One of the phenomena observed here is the degradation of a camera due to radiation. In itself, this is something common but always fascinating to witness. It begins with the appearance of grain, followed by dead pixels, until the camera sensor is permanently damaged. This phenomenon is caused by radioactive particles passing through the camera sensor, creating electrical pulses on the pixel matrix, gradually destroying the camera.

Esperance is the private company hired to monitor the Dead Zone, appearing from time to time in the most irradiated spots of the area. Their mission is to study radiation evolution and strictly control access to the area.

While some wreckage from before the accident still remain, most have been displaced or destroyed. Due to certain objects still left behind, rare resources can be found in the zone, and some people, risking their health, attempt to illegally exploit them for profit.

Esperance is here to prevent this from happening, even if at times their methods are brutal. Their reputation is stained by numerous violent acts against people people who didn’t deserve such treatment.

This unit operates with the Pronton Ex9, a vehicle reinforced with multiple layers of shielding, including lead, polyethylene, and advanced composite materials made of boron and graphene. These materials are specifically designed to provide maximum protection for the crew, making the vehicle impervious to radiation while also being heavily armored in case of criminal activity.
